About

Jonathan Locke’s passion for carpentry began developing at a young age in Guyana, where he often found himself watching the work of the local woodworker. In his spare time he built chicken coops and recreational scooters, his creations growing as he did. After immigrating to the United States to be with his childhood sweetheart, Jonathan attended the Leeds Design Workshop in Massachusetts. He then took up a woodworking position at one of New York’s top furniture designers, Dakota Jackson. There, he honed his skills while building unusual and complex pieces of furniture. After almost five years, Jonathan opened his own custom furniture workshop, Timehri Studios. There, he produced beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces for almost 30 years. Jonathan’s work was made for architects, designers, and discerning clients and has earned him numerous awards and features in magazines.

Having grown up in his beloved homeland of Guyana where both of his parents were artists, Jonathan always had an eye for beauty. His mother’s artwork adorns the walls of many homes in Guyana. His father was a Guggenheim fellow and master artist of Atlanta with works in major collections around the world. His brother, renowned artist Hew Locke, has major exhibitions at museums across the globe, having been honored by King Charles with an OBE. Jonathan’s sister, while not being a practicing artist herself, has an impeccable eye for great art and has her own highly prized collection. Jonathan could not help but be pulled in the direction of the arts.

Jonathan has now embarked on his latest adventure- teaching woodworking in Guyana and other developing countries in order to uplift communities, and producing small exotic pieces of work that have sentimental and patriotic value, suitable as gifts, awards and for those who would like to have a touch of beauty in their home.
